The Town of East Fishkill hosted an Information Session regarding PFOS/PFOA emerging contaminants.

On Thursday, May 20th, 6:00 PM, the Department of Health and Town of East Fishkill will be hosting an informational session to provide information about your drinking water and PFOS/PFOA. All Residences of East Fishkill are welcome to attend in person. The informational meeting is being relocated to the Town Community Center, located at 890 NYS Route 82. You must come to the meeting to be able to ask questions. After the meeting, the recorded meeting will be available on the Town web site or Channel 22.
On behalf of the Department of Health, the Town of East Fishkill is providing information regarding emerging contaminants found in drinking water. As stated by the USEPA, “An ‘emerging contaminant’ is a chemical or material that is characterized by a perceived, potential, or real threat to human health or the environment or a lack of published health standards. A contaminant may also be “emerging” because a new source or a new pathway to humans has been discovered or a new detection method or treatment technology has been developed (DoD 2010).”
Our Water Districts continue to sample for various contaminants established by the New York State Department of Health. In February 2021, sampling included 1,4 Dioxane, perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA), perfluorooctanesulfonic acid (PFOS). As the results from the sampling are received, the DOH continues to provide guidance based on the sampling results. Included below are several links for additional information.

The Town has requested that the State and County Departments of Health attend and provide more information about emerging contaminants.
The Town is coordinating possible meeting dates and will update this web page when the DOH provide more information.
