The Receiver of Taxes collects all taxes levied by the county and Town, including special district taxes such as fire, lighting, and parks. The collection of water and sewer rents for the fifteen (15) Town water districts and six (6) Town sewer districts is also their responsibility.

In addition, this office collects school taxes for the Wappingers Central School District and the Carmel Central School District within the Town of East Fishkill.

County, Town, and School Taxes can now be paid online using Credit or Debit cards using the links below.

A fee of approximately 3.5% is charged for every transaction. The amount may vary depending on what type of card you use. You will see the fee before you enter the payment information and can decide whether or not to proceed.

County & Town Taxes

County and Town taxes are payable once a year, anytime during the months of January and February, without penalty.

A late penalty of 2% is added during March, 3% during April, and 4% plus $2 during May. All Town Tax books are closed on May 31, and unpaid taxes are turned over to the County for collection on or about June 15.


 

Wappingers Central School District

Wappingers Central School District Business Office (845)  298-5000

Wappingers Central School District taxes become due once a year. Generally speaking, they are payable from mid-September through mid-October without penalty. The specific date will change each year. Please refer to your tax bill or call this office for more information. Unpaid school taxes are re-levied on the following year’s county and Town tax bill.

Carmel Central School District

Carmel Central School District Business Office (845)  878-2094

Carmel Central School District taxes are payable during the month of September. A 2% penalty is charged for payments made during the month of October. Unpaid school taxes are re-levied on the following year’s county and tax bill.

The Carmel Central School District taxes are unique in that there is a provision in the law that allows for partial payment. If this option is chosen, the first payment is due no later than September 15. The second payment is due to the Dutchess County Commissioner of Finance after November 1 but before March 15. There is a 5% charge on each half for this option.

Note: After May 31st, Town and County collection close, and books are turned over to the Dutchess County Commissioner of Finance: 486-2025 (2026).


  • Wappingers Central School District taxes are payable in full from September 11 – October 10. 

From October 11 through October 31, 2023, payment must include a 2% penalty.

  • Carmel Central School District taxes are payable in full September 1 – September 30. 

If the installment payment option is chosen, the first payment must be made to the tax office or US Postmarked by September 15, 2023.  The Second Half must be made to the DC Commissioner of Finance after November 1, 2023 – March 15, 2024.

Full Payment September 1 – September 30(Sat.) Payments will be accepted until October 2. Payment made October 3 – October 31 must include a 2% penalty.


Please note:  The Tax Office is located at 2464 Route 52, next to the police station.  Office hours are 8 am – 4 pm, Monday – Friday, except for legal holidays.


Water & Sewer Districts

Water and sewer rents are billed every three months. They are payable without penalty during the first month after billing. Please refer to your bill for a specific due date. Thereafter, a 10% late fee is charged. Any unpaid water rent after November 1 will be re-levied on the following year’s County and Town tax bill.

  • Can I pay my taxes in installments?
    • Property and school taxes for the Wappingers Central School District can not be paid in installments. For the Carmel Central School District, you have the option to make a half payment + a 5% fee due by September 15th (if sent by mail as long as it is postmarked by September 15th).  The second half of the payment will be sent to the Dutchess County Commissioner of Finance after November 1, 2022, and before March 15, 2023.
